Greece prepares for severe heatwave, wildfire risk

(MENAFN) Greece is gearing up for an intense heatwave forecast to push temperatures to as high as 43°C (109°F), raising concerns over public health and wildfire risk, according to local reports on Wednesday.

The extreme heat is anticipated to peak between Sunday, July 20, and Tuesday, July 22, with the possibility of continuing into Wednesday, as per local forecasts. Leading up to the weekend, meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilia noted that temperatures could already reach 39–40°C (102–104°F).

Tsatrafilia cautioned that the extreme conditions may put significant pressure on vulnerable groups, particularly those living in cities with poor airflow and limited access to cooling resources.
