Russia Condemns Israeli Attacks in Syria
“These attacks, which constitute a gross violation of the country's sovereignty and international law, deserve strong condemnation,” declared a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Labeling the evolving situation in Syria as “deeply concerning,” the statement emphasized that Moscow anticipates the execution of de-escalation efforts will contribute to diminishing hostilities and bringing about greater stability across the country.
The ministry further stated that Russia believes the solution to these hostilities must come through dialogue and “strengthening national consensus, respect for the rights of all representatives and communities of the multi-confessional Syrian society.”
“Moscow reaffirms its consistent position in favor of the need to respect the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the statement continued.
The condemnation came after Israeli forces carried out air assaults on Wednesday targeting the Syrian capital, Damascus, along with the cities of Suwayda and Daraa, claiming to act in defense of the Druze minority.
Reports also indicate that another Israeli strike occurred early Thursday, this time aimed at a Syrian military installation.
