Mercedes-Benz Launches Global Recall of Around 223,000 Vans

(MENAFN) Mercedes-Benz is initiating a global recall of approximately 223,000 commercial vehicles due to a critical airbag defect, according to a notice issued Monday by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

Of the total vehicles affected, 60,246 are registered in Germany, based on official data.

The recall impacts Viano and Vito van models manufactured between December 2002 and February 2006. According to the KBA's report, passengers could be at risk "in an accident in which the airbag deploys."

Citing German media, the report further warned that in these specific models, “the gas generator may explode in an accident in which the airbag deploys.” If this occurs, the airbag would fail to function properly, and fragments from the gas generator could injure vehicle occupants.
