Russia requests from chemical arms watchdog to probe Ukraine
Speaking at an OPCW Executive Council meeting in The Hague on Thursday, Russian representative Vladimir Tarabrin claimed that Moscow continues to collect evidence of Ukrainian troops using chemical agents, including military-grade poisons. He also alleged the existence of a system in Ukraine for the large-scale production of such substances.
Tarabrin stated that Russia has called on the OPCW to send a team of experts to independently verify its findings.
Earlier this month, Russian authorities reported uncovering an improvised facility allegedly used by Ukrainian forces to store chloropicrin—a chemical agent banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention. Moscow claims that Ukrainian troops have employed drones to deploy these toxic substances.
Ukraine has also submitted its own request to the OPCW, asking for an investigation into Russia’s alleged use of prohibited chemical weapons. Last week, Germany and the Netherlands accused Russian forces of releasing choking agents on Ukrainian soldiers in trench positions.
Tarabrin denied the allegations and accused certain EU nations of deliberately fabricating evidence as part of a pro-war agenda.
