Bahrain Resumes Full Diplomatic Relations with Lebanon
(MENAFN) In a significant diplomatic move, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa announced Wednesday the establishment of a permanent Bahraini diplomatic mission in Beirut, officially restoring full diplomatic relations with Lebanon.
The declaration came during King Hamad’s meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who is currently on an official visit to Bahrain, as reported by media.
The two leaders discussed the current state of bilateral relations and explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in economic, political, and security areas. They also reiterated a shared commitment to deepening ties for the mutual advancement and prosperity of both nations.
According to a joint statement released Wednesday by Lebanon’s presidency, the countries pledged to boost collaboration in economic growth, regional security, and stability. The agreement includes joint efforts to combat terrorism, increase trade exchange, and pursue peaceful solutions to regional conflicts.
Security cooperation featured prominently in the talks. Both Bahrain and Lebanon strongly condemned destabilizing actions in the region and reaffirmed their unified stance against terrorism and its financing. Bahrain also reiterated its unwavering support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial unity, and the political reform agenda led by President Aoun.
Bahrain had previously shut down its embassy in Beirut in October 2021 after then-Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi made controversial comments about the Yemen conflict that were widely criticized by Gulf Cooperation Council states.
