Iraq’s Midland Oil Seals Agreement with U.S. Schlumberger
Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani revealed the initiative aims to raise the gas production capacity by 60 million standard cubic feet per day, pushing the total output from the field to 100 million cubic feet daily, as outlined in the ministry’s official statement.
The minister noted that the increased gas supply will be routed to the Al-Anbar Combined Cycle Power Plant, a project currently underway led by the Ministry of Electricity.
Despite holding an estimated 132 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, Iraq continues to flare a significant portion of its gas and depends heavily on imports to fuel its power generation facilities.
The Iraqi government is intensifying efforts to curtail gas flaring and expand domestic gas production, aiming to achieve energy self-sufficiency and minimize reliance on imported fuels.
