Italy Firmly Opposes Israeli Settlement Construction in West Bank
"Italy is against any Israeli settlement in the West Bank because it would undermine the foundations of the 'two peoples, two states' project – the only solution to build a stable peace in the Middle East," Tajani stated on X.
The United Nations regards all Israeli settlements within occupied Palestinian lands as violations of international law. It has consistently warned that ongoing expansion threatens the feasibility of establishing two independent states.
Since Israel launched its military campaign in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, at least 1,013 Palestinians have lost their lives in the West Bank, and over 7,000 have been wounded due to actions by Israeli forces and settlers, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
In a July advisory opinion, the International Court of Justice deemed Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories unlawful and urged a complete withdrawal from all settlements in both the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
