Militants Blow Up Key Gas Pipeline in Pakistan

(MENAFN) In a significant act of sabotage, suspected insurgents destroyed a critical gas conduit in Pakistan's northwestern region on Wednesday, disrupting the flow of gas to Punjab — the nation's most populous province, according to law enforcement.

The explosion occurred in the troubled Lakki Marwat area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region frequently impacted by violence.

Speaking to the press, local police representative Amir Khan revealed that "suspected militants detonated explosives planted on the pipeline," leading to an immediate halt in gas delivery to the Mianwali zone in Punjab.

This marks the fourth incident at the same site in under three months, highlighting a disturbing pattern of repeated attacks.

While no group swiftly asserted responsibility for the destruction, authorities suspect the involvement of the outlawed group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — a faction notorious for its frequent assaults on both government infrastructure and security forces.

Security personnel swiftly launched a sweep operation across the region in a bid to identify and apprehend those behind the blast.

Lakki Marwat continues to be a center of instability, often witnessing acts of militancy and conflict.

In recent times, TTP insurgents have repeatedly targeted police units and other state forces in the vicinity.
