War hawk senator warns US with divine punishment
Speaking at the 58th annual Silver Elephant Gala in South Carolina over the weekend — a speech he later shared on social media — the Republican senator praised Israel for allegedly refraining from committing “genocide” in Gaza. “If America pulls the plug on Israel, God will pull the plug on us,” he declared.
His remarks came soon after Israel unveiled a plan to occupy Gaza City, one of the last areas outside its military control. The proposal, presented as a step toward ending the nearly two-year conflict with Hamas, has been widely criticized internationally, though the US has offered little response. President Donald Trump recently stated it was “pretty much up to Israel” whether to take full control of the enclave.
Graham, a long-time pro-Israel advocate, has repeatedly called for Gaza’s full occupation, likening the approach to postwar takeovers of Tokyo and Berlin. In late July, he said forceful control was the only way to resolve the conflict, suggesting that Washington privately shares this view despite its formal role as a peace mediator.
