US attacks another drug vessel in Eastern Pacific
"Earlier today, at the direction of President (Donald) Trump, the Department of War carried out a lethal kinetic strike on yet another narco-trafficking vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) in the Eastern Pacific," Hegseth wrote on X, the US social media platform. He said US intelligence had identified the vessel as being “involved in illicit narcotics smuggling” while “transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and carrying narcotics.”
The strike reportedly killed four men aboard the vessel, described as “terrorists,” and was carried out in international waters without any harm to US personnel. “The Western Hemisphere is no longer a safe haven for narco-terrorists bringing drugs to our shores to poison Americans,” Hegseth added.
This operation is the latest in a series of US strikes on suspected drug-trafficking boats under the administration’s anti-narco-terrorism campaign. Hegseth also revealed that a joint task force is being established under the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) to target drug trafficking organizations in the region.
