Russian airstrikes kill four, injure fifteen in Ukraine

(MENAFN) Ukraine said Monday that overnight Russian airstrikes on the northeastern Kharkiv and southwestern Odesa regions left at least four people dead and 15 injured.

A statement from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) on Telegram said that missile strikes hit a residential area in Balakliia, about 70 kilometers southeast of Kharkiv. “According to preliminary data, three people were killed, 13 more were injured, including four children,” it said, noting that residential buildings, cars, high-rise apartments, and a kindergarten were damaged. Fires sparked by the attack were quickly put out.

Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov said DSNS teams were still working at the scene, while Balakliia’s military administration head, Vitalii Karabanov, said two missiles struck the city.

The DSNS later reported a drone strike on the village of Velykyi Burluk in the Kharkiv region, saying it killed one person and injured another.

It also said the Odesa region was hit overnight by drone attacks that caused fires at port and energy facilities. “According to preliminary information, one person was injured,” the agency said.

Private energy company DTEK reported that its facilities in Odesa were targeted, leaving 32,500 customers temporarily without electricity. “Our energy workers will begin restoration work immediately after receiving permission from the military and rescuers. The damage is significant. Repairs will take time,” it said.

Ukraine’s Air Force later claimed it shot down 91 of 128 drones launched by Russia, adding that two Iskander-M ballistic missiles were also fired overnight.

Russia has not commented on the strikes. Moscow and Kyiv have recently accused each other of targeting energy infrastructure as winter nears.
