U.S., Israel Strike Iran's Energy Infrastructure
In Isfahan, a natural gas administration building and a gas pressure reduction station sustained direct hits, inflicting damage on portions of both facilities as well as surrounding residential structures, media reported. In Khorramshahr, strikes zeroed in on a natural gas pipeline connected to a local power plant.
Local officials in Khorramshahr confirmed the scope of the assault was contained, stating that one missile landed outside a natural gas pipeline station with no reported casualties. Authorities also noted that power supply remained stable throughout the attack, crediting continuous emergency efforts for preventing an outage — though no equivalent update was issued regarding Isfahan's electricity situation.
The strikes unfolded against a rapidly deteriorating diplomatic backdrop. US President Donald Trump had issued a stark warning just days earlier, declaring that Washington would "obliterate" Iran's power plants if Tehran did not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping within 48 hours.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired back with its own threat, vowing that any assault on Iranian infrastructure would trigger immediate "reciprocal" attacks on regional energy grids and desalination plants, specifically those supporting Israel or US bases.
In a notable shift, Trump announced Monday that he had ordered a five-day postponement of all planned strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, describing recent diplomatic exchanges as "very good and productive" talks with Tehran over the past two days.
The conflict has been intensifying since US and Israeli forces first struck Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran has since responded with successive waves of drone and missile attacks directed at Israel and Gulf states hosting American military installations.
