Shooting Reported in Southeast Washington, DC

(MENAFN) A US Park Police officer was shot Monday in southeast Washington, DC, triggering an active manhunt as investigators work to determine what prompted the attack, the department confirmed.

The shooting occurred in the 5100 block of Queens Stroll Place, according to authorities. The injured officer was transported for medical care and is expected to survive.

US Park Police Chief Scott Brecht addressed reporters following the incident, offering an update on the officer's condition and identifying those being sought.

"We are seeking two suspects -- two Black males," Brecht said, confirming the officer is receiving treatment for "non-life threatening" injuries.

DC Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll revealed a troubling detail about the nature of the attack, disclosing that the veteran officer had been deliberately targeted while seated inside a vehicle.

The FBI has joined the investigation, working alongside law enforcement partners as the probe intensifies. What triggered the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been reported.

Authorities have not released additional descriptions of the suspects or indicated how close they may be to making an apprehension.
