Maersk Vessel Passes Strait of Hormuz Under US Military Escort

(MENAFN) A Danish shipping and logistics company has confirmed that one of its commercial vessels successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz while under US military protection, according to reports.

In a statement issued Monday, Maersk said the vessel ALLIANCE FAIRFAX, a US-flagged roll-on/roll-off ship operated by Farrell Lines (a subsidiary of Maersk Line), completed its passage through the strategic waterway and exited the Persian Gulf on May 4.

The company stated: “The transit was completed without incident, and all crew members are safe and unharmed.”

Maersk also explained that the ship had been stationed in the Gulf since the beginning of the US-Israeli military escalation with Iran on February 28. It added that the vessel had been unable to leave earlier due to what it described as ongoing security concerns in the region.

According to the statement, the departure was made possible after the development and coordination of a detailed security plan in cooperation with the US military. Approval for the transit was given by the vessel’s shore-based and onboard leadership teams.

The ship reportedly left the Gulf while being escorted by US military assets.

The passage comes amid heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of hostilities involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which have included retaliatory strikes and broader instability affecting maritime routes. The situation has also contributed to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping corridor.
