Three Dead After Large-Scale Drone Attack Targets Moscow Region

(MENAFN) Three civilians were killed and several others injured following what Russian authorities described as a major Ukrainian drone assault targeting the Greater Moscow area, according to official statements released on Sunday.

Sergey Sobyanin said air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 127 drones over the course of the previous 24 hours, describing the incident as a “massive” attack on the Russian capital and surrounding areas.

According to reports, the strike appeared to be among the largest drone operations aimed at Moscow in more than a year. Previous large-scale raids in recent months reportedly involved significantly fewer unmanned aerial vehicles.

Andrey Vorobyev confirmed that three people lost their lives during the attack. Two men were reportedly killed after debris from a downed drone struck a residential construction site in the village of Pogorelki near Mytishchi, northeast of Moscow.

Another drone reportedly hit an apartment building in the city of Khimki, northwest of the capital, killing a woman living in the building. Reports also indicated that another individual remained trapped beneath the rubble following the strike.

In the town of Istra, located roughly 50 kilometers northwest of Moscow, four people were reportedly injured after an apartment building and several private homes sustained damage during the attack.

Regional authorities also stated that residential districts and infrastructure facilities in other parts of the Moscow region were affected during the raid, as emergency services continued assessment and recovery operations.
